Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about NF525, LNE and NF203 certification.

01 Is certification mandatory?

No — as of 20 February 2026, certification is no longer mandatory. The law published in the Official Journal permanently removed this obligation.

Although not mandatory, certification remains a quality and fiscal compliance benchmark. It can be a competitive advantage and reassure your clients about the reliability of your software.

02 What are the penalties for non-compliance?

Sanctions remain in force. Any point-of-sale software must be either certified or covered by a non-permissiveness declaration issued by the publisher.

For the end user (company): a fine of €7,500 per non-compliant software, with a 60-day period to remedy the situation.

For the publisher: €10,000 per non-compliant licence sold, and up to €37,500 and 5 years' imprisonment for complicity in tax fraud.

03 What were the compliance deadlines?

These deadlines applied during the mandatory period (now elapsed):

16 February 2025 — Certificate, publisher declaration, or proof of commitment.
1 September 2025 — Certificate or formalised proof of commitment.
1 March 2026 — Only a certificate was accepted.

Since 20 February 2026, the obligation has been removed.

04 My software doesn't handle a cash register. Am I affected?

If your software records payments or manages invoicing or settlement modules, you may be affected even without a traditional point-of-sale system. A technical audit is recommended to be certain.

05 What is the difference between NF525 and LNE?

NF525 (INFOCERT) applies a single, strict framework, applied uniformly to all publishers.

LNE is based solely on legal requirements, which allows tailored solutions with a more flexible — though more subjective — approach.

Both certifications are legally equivalent.

06 How long is a certification valid?

NF525 and LNE certifications are valid for 3 years, with a mandatory annual renewal audit.

07 How much does certification cost?

Initial audit: approximately €15,000
Annual renewal audits: €4,000 to €6,000

These amounts may vary depending on the certifying body and the complexity of the software.

08 Can you get certified without support?

Yes, technically. But specialist support optimises the compliance process, reduces implementation errors and avoids the additional costs associated with non-compliant audits.

09 Can Hacktiv' Studio support us?

Yes. We can help you determine whether certification applies to you, and guide you through the entire process if it does.
